How does fat over lean applies if I’m using Liquin? I’ve heard that the rule is to not mix linseed oil if using Liquin. But then how it works. Especially that Liquin works to speed up “drying” process, and not slow down, as linseed does. Thanks

I find it amazing how you construct your realism portraits with focus from top to bottom. Impressionists work the whole painting from the beginning.

I know you made this 2 years ago, but I see a best-selling book in this talk. You are a storyteller! I usually skip over these art videos, but I kept with this one. I am drawing right now and you cut the boredom of my arduous task. Write a book on your experiences of your art education. You are funny and entertaining. Write that book!

You are so very clear with your explanations, though I have to keep pausing if I want to make notes because you talk very quickly. I have found this very helpful as portraits are my favourite to paint.

I’m an amateur painter and I feel that when I begin to paint I’m constantly pushing back-and-forth between values so as I paint something light, it makes something else look a little bit too dark and vice versa. Does anyone else battle? This is part of the process

I’ve been painting for years but never leaned towards portraits because of the complexity of skin tones, highlights, hues, values and chroma. However you’ve made it very easy to understand and I will try to get over the fear and start tackling portraits. Thanks for this tutorial. Subscribed to your channel.

I am a fairly new subscriber. I am enjoying your You Tube talks and demonstrations so much. You have been blessed with the gift of the gab as they sat in Ireland. I could listen to you tell stories and talk about painting for hours. I also taught an evening class, Design and Composition, at the Art College that I had just recently graduated from. This was the in mid seventies. I too was so nervous that it was very obvious to the participants. I learned that later. Everything that you said rang so true for me. I do not know why the attendance list had to have the professions of the student…that totally set me off…A doctor, teachers, social worker etc…Oh gawd, I was 22 years old and like you I felt that the participants will know more that I do…My mouth became so dry that my upper lip stuck on my gum and would not come down…I had to manually push it back down.😂 Now on to your next video

Hello Ian Thank you so much for sharing your experience. A few months ago you said you were taking a break from making videos to reflect on your own art and where you wanted to take it if I remember correctly. You encouraged followers to sign up to receive your videos during that time. I did exactly that but I did not receive anything. I am glad to see that you’re back and I hope you found what you wanted.

I found New Masters Academy really good for an online platform, they have tracks to progress and teach classical stuff as well, they also have a good discord community that help each other - I wish you would teach on there it would be so cool if you did a live class.

I pegged you as a Jim Carrey fan ever since I found out about your channel and I couldn’t put my finger on it why that was (minus a similar speech pattern and expressiveness) but I felt kind of silly thinking it, this is from someone who went as the cable guy to a school party and proceeded to annoy the hell out of everyone too (including my parents because, one tv in the house had to endure his entire catalogue plenty of time over, and now I’m cackling in delight for being RIGHT! I feel so smug. Great videos btw, I’m finally learning how to oil paint and your videos help a lot with that.

Thank YOU, I do use Winsor N. oils, but have liked BLUE RIDGE, oil colors. They have a white, that gives the winter scenery that extra appearance I love when seen in Real Life, or in a few Masters,, like the famous one with the sheep and their master. leading them home in a strange snow storm, that GLOW. Titanium white, too bright. Blue Ridge has a few other colors I would love to get, be are in short supply. Guess others too like the Blue Ridge paint. Brushes, I am somewhat stuck, with what I have. I too do not like to over layer. Not often do I do figures, but this helps me if and when I do. I seen another artist and he has his sitter, and scribbles in, and as he scribbles you can see the face features forming. When done it is all in color, after he had worked in all the colors.

I am mostly an acrylic artist, and at the end will go over in more detailing in oils. My Budget is Slim, tissue thin. Anyways I enjoy YOUR work. Reminds me of "LECNG JUNE Hyper REALISM ", but not HYPER in his mind, but the ability to strive to achieve, from his Gut soul.(SOLE ?) This Is the effect I try to get as close to as I can, using the FAST DRYING ACRYLIC, being frugal to not glob on paint . I do not care what ART CRITICS say about Wildlife Art. I appreciate it while I can, before the are is mowed down , gutted, to make room for another fast food, or gas station, or another CONDO. Where I live NOW they are building the LARGEST Affordable Housing in USA. And I see taxes go sky hi, for home owners, which has all ready gone up 7-14 thousand more in last few years
